Why did you select this program?
I selected this program because I studied at KCP 4 years ago and felt that the program helped me advance immensely.
What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?
What I like most about this program is the fact that there are multiple teachers for each class. This enables the students to benefit from each teacher's style of teaching rather than only being exposed to one. I also like how interactive the classes are. I can't really think of something I liked least as I thoroughly enjoy the program.
What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?
I think the most helpful aspects of the program were the times during class that included pair work, group sessions, and basically anything during class that gave the students an opportunity to practice using Japanese rather than just silently taking notes.
What did you find most valuable in the Culture Course?
I actually only attended some of the excursions, not the lectures, as I am not attending KCP for academic credit this time. (I took the full Culture Course when I was here 4 years ago). I enjoyed the chance to go to the various places of cultural importance and see them for myself.
Were you pleased with the general living arrangements? Anything you especially liked? Any problems you experienced?
I was very happy to be placed in Kasai. In fact I requested that location when I applied. I lived in the Kasai area when I attended KCP 4 years ago, and while this time was a different building, it was just as enjoyable as I remembered. My favorite aspects were the amount of space in the room and the delicious meal plan options.
Any further thoughts or tips for those considering the program or new KCP students?
I would suggest having a grasp of hiragana and katakana before coming here as well as being familiar with at least hearing the Japanese language. I found watching and listening to various forms of Japanese media to be very helpful for picking up common words and phrases as well as improving my own pronunciation.
